Sign PDF

Draw your signature and place it on a PDF.

You can sign a PDF here by drawing your signature with your finger or mouse and letting the tool place it on the page. It suits the everyday paperwork that lands in your inbox: a rental form, a permission slip, an offer letter that HR wants back by Friday. You don't need a printer or a scanner, and you don't need to create an account.

How to sign a PDF online

  1. Tap "Select files" on your phone, or drag the PDF onto the page on a computer. The tool takes one PDF at a time.
  2. Draw your signature on the pad. A finger works well on a phone, and a mouse or trackpad works on a computer.
  3. Choose the page: last page, first page, or every page.
  4. Choose where it goes: bottom right, bottom left or bottom centre.
  5. Pick a size (small, medium or large) and start. The signed PDF downloads when it's ready.

What kind of signature this is

This tool adds a simple electronic signature. In practice that means a picture of your handwritten signature placed on the PDF, much like signing a paper copy and scanning it back in. For most day-to-day forms that is exactly what people are asked for.

It is not a certified digital signature. Those use a digital certificate tied to your identity, and some banks, courts, government offices and large companies require them for certain documents. If you aren't sure which one you need, ask the person or organisation who sent you the file before you send it back.

Choosing the page, position and size

The options are deliberately short, so here is what each one is good for.

Option Choices When to use it
Page Last page / First page / Every page Most letters and agreements end with a signature line, so "Last page" is the usual pick. "Every page" fits documents where each page needs your initials or mark.
Position Bottom right / Bottom left / Bottom centre Match it to where the signature line sits on the form.
Size Small / Medium / Large Small fits narrow boxes. Large is easier to see on a full blank area.

If the result doesn't land quite where you hoped, run it again with a different position or size. Because you draw a fresh signature each time, it only takes a moment.

Getting a clean signature on the pad

Sign slowly and use most of the pad's width. A tiny scribble in one corner tends to look thin once it's placed on the page. On a phone, turning the screen sideways gives you more room to draw. If the first attempt looks shaky, clear it and try again; nobody sees the practice runs.

When people e-sign a PDF

Students sign consent forms, internship agreements and accommodation contracts that arrive as attachments. Job seekers add a signature to an offer letter or a reference form and send it back the same day. Parents sign school trip forms from their phone while waiting at the gate.

In small businesses the use is more routine. A shop owner signs a supplier's order confirmation, a freelancer signs a simple service agreement, or an office manager signs a batch of letters one after another. Since the tool works in the browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, you can add a signature to a PDF from whichever device has the file on it.

Tips and limits

The tool places your signature in one of the three bottom positions. It doesn't let you drag the signature to any spot on the page or fill in typed text fields, so check the form's layout before you start.

If you need to sign several separate PDFs, sign each one on its own. If you would rather send a single file, sign them first and then join them with Merge PDF. A signed contract with lots of scanned pages can get large; Compress PDF will usually bring it under an email attachment limit.

A PDF that asks for a password when you open it has to be unlocked before you can sign it. If you know the password, Unlock PDF removes it.

Privacy

Your PDF and your drawn signature are processed on our server and deleted as soon as the signed file is sent back to you. We don't store them or share them, and we don't add any watermark or branding to your document. If the signed file is sensitive, such as a contract with personal details, you can add a password afterwards with Protect PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free to sign a PDF here?

Yes. Signing a PDF costs nothing, and there's no sign-up or account. You upload the file, draw your signature and download the result.

Can I sign a PDF on my phone?

Yes, and a phone is often the easiest way because you can sign with your finger. Open the page in your browser on Android or iPhone, tap "Select files", pick the PDF and draw on the pad.

Is this a legally valid signature?

It is a simple electronic signature, the same as a signed and scanned page. Many everyday forms accept that. Some documents need a certified digital signature with a certificate, and this tool doesn't create those, so check with whoever asked for the signature if you are unsure.

Can I put my signature on every page?

Yes. Set "Page" to "Every page" and your signature appears in the same position on each page. That is handy for documents where every page has to be initialled.

Will the person I send it to see a watermark?

No. The signed PDF has no watermark or Xon File branding. It looks like your document with your signature on it.

Can I sign a PDF that is password protected?

Not directly. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, using the password you already have, then sign the unlocked copy.

How big can the PDF be?

You can upload a PDF of up to 100 MB. That covers most forms, contracts and scanned documents.
