PDF to Word

Turn a PDF into an editable Word document.

Use this PDF to Word converter when you have a PDF you need to change and no original file to go back to. Upload the PDF, and you get an editable DOCX file back that opens in Microsoft Word or any program that reads Word documents. There's no account to create, and the tool runs in your browser on a phone or a computer.

How to convert PDF to Word

  1. Click "Select files", or drag your PDF onto the box if you're on a computer.
  2. Add more PDFs if you want to convert several at once (up to 30).
  3. Start the conversion.
  4. Download your Word file. If you converted more than one PDF, the DOCX files arrive together in a single ZIP.

There are no settings to choose. The tool reads the text and layout of each page and rebuilds them as a Word document.

Why people convert PDF to DOCX

A PDF is good for sharing because it looks the same everywhere, but that also makes it awkward to edit. Most of the time you just want to fix one line, update a date or reuse a few paragraphs, and retyping the whole thing is a waste of an afternoon.

Some common cases:

In each case, converting PDF to editable Word gets you most of the way there. You then tidy up anything that moved and save it as a normal document.

What to expect from the result

The converter works best on PDFs that were made from text documents in the first place, such as a file exported from Word, Google Docs or another word processor. Those PDFs contain real text, so the conversion can pick up the words, paragraphs and basic layout.

Complex layouts are harder. If the page has several columns, text boxes placed over images, or a lot of design work, some parts may shift position in the Word file. The words are usually all there, but you might need to move a few things back into place.

Fonts are another small thing to check. If the PDF used a font your computer doesn't have, Word will show a similar one instead.

Scanned PDFs need one extra step

A scanned PDF is really a set of photos of pages. There's no text inside it for the converter to read, so converting it straight to Word would give you a document full of images instead of editable words.

To fix that, run the file through OCR PDF first. It reads the text on the scanned pages and adds a hidden text layer. Then bring that new PDF back here and convert it to DOCX. OCR accuracy depends on how clear the scan is, so a sharp, straight scan gives better results than a blurry phone photo.

Tips for a cleaner conversion

Works on phones and computers

The tool runs in the web browser, so there's nothing to download. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, and on Android phones and iPhones. On a phone, tap "Select files" and pick the PDF from your files or downloads. On a computer you can drag and drop.

Each upload can be up to 100 MB in total.

Your files stay private

Your PDFs are sent to our server, converted, and deleted as soon as the Word file is sent back to you. We don't keep copies, and nothing is shared with anyone. You also won't find any watermark or Xon File branding in the converted document.

Frequently asked questions

Is this PDF to Word converter free?

Yes. You can convert PDF to Word without paying and without signing up for an account. There's no watermark added to your document.

Can I edit the Word file after converting?

Yes, that's the point of the tool. The result is a standard DOCX file, so you can open it in Microsoft Word and change the text, delete sections or add new ones like any other document.

Why does my converted document look a bit different from the PDF?

PDFs with complex layouts, such as multiple columns or text sitting on top of pictures, don't always map neatly onto a Word page. Some elements may shift, and missing fonts get swapped for similar ones. Most documents need only small fixes.

My PDF is a scan. Will this work?

Not directly. A scanned PDF has no real text inside it, so convert it with OCR PDF first to make the text readable, then convert the result to Word.

Can I convert several PDFs to Word at once?

Yes. You can upload up to 30 PDFs in one go, as long as the upload stays within 100 MB. You'll get all the DOCX files back together in a ZIP.

Can I convert PDF to Word on my phone?

Yes. Open the page in your phone's browser on Android or iPhone, tap "Select files", choose your PDF and download the DOCX when it's ready. You can then open it in a Word app on your phone or send it to your computer.

What happens to my file after conversion?

It's deleted from our server as soon as your Word file is sent back. Nothing is stored or shared.
