A visible watermark helps when you post your photos online or send copies of documents you'd rather not see reused. This tool lets you add a watermark to photo files using your own text. You choose where it sits and how strong it looks, then download the marked copies.
How to add a watermark to a photo
- Add your photos. You can do up to 30 at once, and they all get the same watermark.
- Type the watermark text: your name, your shop's name, a website or a short note.
- Choose the position: "Centre (diagonal)" or "Bottom right".
- Choose the strength: Light, Medium or Strong.
- Start the tool and download. One photo downloads directly; a batch comes back as a ZIP.
On a computer you can drag the photos straight onto the page. On a phone, tap "Select files".
Centre or corner?
The two positions do quite different jobs.
A diagonal watermark across the centre is hard to crop out because it runs through the middle of the picture. It's the stronger choice when you want to discourage copying, such as for photo proofs you send to a client before payment, or a scan of your ID card. The trade-off is that it covers part of the picture.
A watermark in the bottom-right corner is quieter and leaves the photo easy to enjoy. It works more like a signature or credit: people see who took the picture or which shop it's from. It's easier to crop off, so it suits photos where credit matters more than protection.
Light, Medium or Strong
Strength sets how visible the text is against the photo.
| Strength | How it looks | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Faint, see-through | Portfolio pictures where the photo should stay the focus |
| Medium | Clear but not heavy | Most product photos and social media posts |
| Strong | Bold and hard to ignore | Proofs, ID copies and anything you really don't want reused |
If you aren't sure, try Medium on one photo first and look at it on both a phone and a computer screen before running the whole batch.
Ideas for the watermark text
Short text works best. Your name or business name, your Instagram handle or website, or a phrase like "Sample" or "Proof" are all common.
For copies of personal documents, a purpose line is useful. Writing something like "For visa application only" or "Copy for rental agreement" across a scan of your passport or ID makes it harder for anyone to reuse that copy for something else. Use the centre position and Strong for this.
Who watermarks photos
Photographers mark preview images for clients and portfolio shots they share online. Small business owners selling clothes, food, crafts or phones through Instagram, WhatsApp or Facebook put their shop name on product pictures so they stay credited when people forward them. Estate agents and landlords sometimes mark property photos for the same reason.
Students and teachers use it too, for example to label original artwork or photos for a project. Anyone sending sensitive document photos over email or WhatsApp can add a purpose line before they hit send.
What it can and can't do
This tool adds text only. It doesn't place a logo image as a watermark. If you need your name to appear as a picture logo, you'll have to add that another way.
A watermark discourages copying but can't fully prevent it. Someone determined can still crop, edit or paint over it, especially a corner mark. The diagonal position on Strong is the hardest to remove.
Keep your original, unmarked photos. The tool gives you new marked copies and doesn't change the files on your device, but it's good practice to store the originals somewhere safe.
If you want the photos smaller before sharing, run them through Resize image or Compress image after adding the watermark. To mark the pages of a PDF instead of a photo, use Add watermark to PDF.
Privacy
Your photos are processed on our server and deleted as soon as the watermarked copies are sent back to you. Nothing is stored or shared. The only mark on your result is the one you typed; Xon File adds no logo or branding of its own. It's free, there's no account to create, and it works in the browser on phones and computers with uploads up to 100 MB.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free to watermark photos?
Yes. Adding a text watermark costs nothing, and there's no sign-up. You can mark up to 30 photos at a time.
Can I add a logo as a watermark?
No. This tool adds text watermarks only. You can type your brand name, website or handle as the text.
Can I watermark photos on my phone?
Yes. The tool works in the browser on Android and iPhone. Tap "Select files", choose your photos from the gallery, type your text and download the results.
Which position is hardest to remove?
The diagonal watermark across the centre. It runs through the main part of the picture, so it can't simply be cropped off. Combine it with Strong for the most protection.
Will the watermark make my photo look bad?
That depends on the strength you pick. Light keeps the photo the main focus, while Strong is very visible. Try one photo first to see which level suits you.
Can I put different text on different photos?
Every photo in one batch gets the same text, position and strength. To mark some photos differently, for example with a client's name on each set of proofs, run a separate batch for each.
Does the tool change my original photo?
No. You download new copies with the watermark on them. The original files on your phone or computer stay as they were.
