Remove pages

Delete the pages you don't need from a PDF.

To remove pages from PDF files on Xon File, you type the numbers of the pages you want gone and download the same document without them. It's handy for blank pages from a scanner, an old cover sheet, or a page with details you'd rather not send. The tool is free, and there is nothing to sign up for or install.

How to delete PDF pages

  1. Open your PDF in a reader first and note the numbers of the pages you want to remove.
  2. Add the PDF here. Drag it in on a computer, or tap "Select files" on a phone. It takes one PDF, up to 100 MB.
  3. In the "Pages to remove" box, type the page numbers, for example 2, 5-7.
  4. Start the tool.
  5. Download your new PDF. Every page you didn't list is still there, in the same order.

Typing page numbers in the box

The "Pages to remove" box takes single pages and ranges, separated by commas.

You type Pages removed
1 Page 1 only
2, 5-7 Pages 2, 5, 6 and 7
3-4, 10 Pages 3, 4 and 10

A range like 5-7 includes both ends, so page 5 and page 7 are removed along with page 6. Use the page positions your PDF reader shows, counting the first page of the file as 1. Printed numbers on the pages themselves can be different if the document starts with a cover or a contents page.

You can't remove every page. A PDF needs at least one page left, so the tool won't accept a list that covers the whole document.

Remove pages or extract pages?

Both tools give you a smaller PDF. The difference is what you type.

With Remove pages you list what to throw away. This is quicker when you're dropping a few pages from a long file, such as deleting pages 2 and 40 from a 50-page report.

With Extract pages you list what to keep. That's quicker when you only need a few pages from a long file, for example keeping pages 12 to 14 of a 200-page manual.

Where this comes in handy

Blank and spoiled scans

Scanners and phone scanning apps often pick up blank backs of pages or a page that went through crooked. Delete PDF pages like these before you send the scan to anyone, and the document looks much more finished. If the scan is fine except that some pages are sideways, Rotate PDF fixes that.

Sharing only what's needed

Sometimes a document has one page that the other person shouldn't see, such as a page with account numbers in a bank statement, or a page of internal notes at the back of a quote for a client. Remove it, and send the rest.

Job applications and school forms

Application portals often have page limits. If your portfolio or supporting documents run over, you can cut the weakest pages and stay within the limit without rebuilding the file in Word.

Old or outdated pages

Price lists, menus and course handouts collect out-of-date pages over time. Removing them gives you a clean current version to print or forward. If you also need to change the order of the pages that are left, use Organize PDF, which can drop and reorder pages in one step.

What happens to your file

Your PDF is uploaded to our server, the pages are removed, and the file is deleted as soon as the result is sent back to you. We don't keep it and we don't share it. No watermark or branding is added to the pages you keep.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free to remove pages from a PDF?

Yes. The tool is free and you don't need an account. Your result comes back without a watermark.

Can I delete pages from a PDF on my iPhone or Android phone?

Yes. Open this page in your phone's browser, tap "Select files" and choose the PDF. Type the page numbers, start the tool, and the new PDF downloads to your phone.

How do I remove several pages that aren't next to each other?

Separate them with commas. For example, 1, 4, 9-11 removes page 1, page 4 and pages 9 to 11 in one go.

Can I remove all the pages except one?

Yes, as long as one page is left. If you want to keep just one or two pages, it's easier to use Extract pages and type the pages you want to keep.

Can I remove pages from several PDFs at once?

No. Remove pages takes one PDF per upload, so run your files one after another. Another way is to combine them with Merge PDF first, then remove the pages you don't need from the single merged file.

Will removing pages change the rest of my PDF?

The pages you didn't list stay in the same order they were in before. Nothing is added to them, and no watermark is placed on them.

Can I get a removed page back?

Not from the new file. Keep your original PDF until you've checked the result, so you can start again if you typed a wrong number.
