An image converter saves the same picture in a different format, which is what you need when you download a picture as WEBP and the upload form only accepts JPG. It also helps when a designer sends a PNG that's too heavy for an email, or a slide template wants PNG and you only have a JPG.
This one converts to JPG, PNG or WEBP. It accepts JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, GIF and TIFF files as input, so older formats like BMP and TIFF can be turned into something every site and app is used to.
How to convert an image format
- Add your images, up to 30 at a time. Drag and drop works on a computer; on a phone, tap "Select files".
- Under "Convert to", choose JPG, PNG or WEBP.
- Start the tool. One image downloads straight away; a batch comes back as a ZIP.
You can mix input formats in one batch. A folder with a few PNGs, a WEBP and a TIFF can all go to JPG in one go.
Which format to choose
Each of the three output formats has a place.
| Convert to | Choose it when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| JPG | A site, form or app asks for JPG, or you want photos that open almost anywhere | Transparent areas become white |
| PNG | You need to keep a transparent background, or the image is a screenshot, logo or graphic with sharp text | Photos saved as PNG are often larger files |
| WEBP | You're putting images on your own website and want lighter files | Some older programs and upload forms may not accept it |
PNG to JPG
This is the most common conversion. PNG files from screenshots, design tools or a background remover can be large, and plenty of upload forms ask for JPG specifically. Converting PNG to JPG usually gives you a file that's easier to send. Just remember that a PNG with a transparent background will get a white background as a JPG.
JPG to PNG
Going from JPG to PNG is useful when an app or template asks for PNG, or when you want to edit an image without it being saved as JPG again each time. Converting to PNG won't add transparency to a JPG. The background that was in the photo stays there.
WEBP to JPG
Many images saved from websites arrive as WEBP. If your phone gallery, a printing shop or an older program won't open them, converting WEBP to JPG is the quickest fix.
JPG or PNG to WEBP
If you run a website or a blog, converting images to WEBP before uploading can make pages lighter. Convert one picture first, put it on a test page and check it looks right, then do the rest of the batch. Keep the JPG or PNG originals in case you need them for email or print later.
Who uses an image converter
Students converting pictures for assignments and online forms are frequent users, along with job seekers whose CV portals reject anything that isn't JPG or PNG. Office staff convert TIFF scans and BMP files from older equipment into something colleagues can open by email.
Website owners and bloggers convert product shots and blog images to WEBP before uploading them. Small sellers who download images from suppliers convert WEBP files to JPG so they can post them on WhatsApp or marketplace listings.
Limits and tips
The converter changes the file format and has no size or editing settings, so it won't fix blur or colour. If you also need smaller dimensions, use Resize image. For the smallest possible file size, Compress image shrinks and optimises photos as JPG.
Converting an image many times back and forth between formats won't improve it. Start from the best original you have.
If you have iPhone photos in HEIC format, they need a different tool: HEIC to JPG.
Privacy
Your images are processed on our server and deleted as soon as the converted files are sent back to you. We don't store or share them, and we don't add a watermark or branding. The converter is free, needs no sign-up, and works in the browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook. Each upload can be up to 100 MB.
Frequently asked questions
Is this image converter free?
Yes. You can convert as many as 30 images per batch at no cost, and you don't need to create an account.
Why did my transparent background turn white?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent areas become white when you save as JPG. If you want to keep the transparent background, convert to PNG instead.
Can I convert WEBP to JPG on my phone?
Yes. Open the page in your phone's browser, tap "Select files", pick the WEBP images, choose JPG and download. It works on Android and iPhone.
Which formats can I upload?
You can upload JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, GIF and TIFF. The output can be JPG, PNG or WEBP.
Will the image dimensions change?
The converter's only job is the file format, and it has no size settings. If you also need a picture with fewer pixels, run it through Resize image before or after converting.
Can I convert HEIC photos here?
No. For iPhone HEIC or HEIF photos, use the HEIC to JPG tool, which is built for that format.
Does converting reduce quality?
JPG and WEBP files are usually smaller than PNG, and with photos the difference is often hard to see. If quality matters a lot, keep your original file and always convert from that rather than from a copy.
